Gipe Associates, Inc., a mechanical and electrical engineering firm founded in 1977 and located in Baltimore, Maryland was the recipient of the Grand Award as part of ACEC/MD’s Engineering Excellence Awards program for the Olde Towne Youth Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  They provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design engineering services for this state-of-the-art project, which was conceived by the City of Gaithersburg to be their first LEED Silver building.  However, during the design the process, the City raised the bar to LEED Gold certified, under LEED NC 2.2.  At the completion of the construction phase of the project, the project actually had 52 credits – enough to achieve a LEED Platinum level of certification, exceeding client expectations.
